Electric Forest

Electric Forest… Where do I even begin?

Imagine a world where everyone got along in peace, where everyone was smiling, where everyone was more concerned with giving than receiving, where everyone was non-judgmental. I no longer have to imagine what that would be like after attending Electric Forest 2012.

Over the past 12 years I’ve been to a lot of festivals, from coast-to-coast and everywhere in between, and I can honestly say, that Electric Forest 2012 was the most amazing experience that I have ever encountered. I’m calling it an experience because it was so much more than just a music festival. Over 30,000 people gathered together in a single place and over the course of the 5 days that I was there, I didn’t encounter a single un-plur act, a single bit of selfishness, a single grunt, whine or bitch. Drama did not exist. In fact, it was the extreme opposite. Every single person that I encountered, whether I had ever met them before or if it was the first time, whether they were younger or older, was full of smiles, was willing to lend a helping hand and help out in any way needed, without even being asked of, was willing to give something up of theirs, and was non-judgmental towards everyone. Whether you were with a group or by yourself, it didn’t matter. You always had a friend close by.

What amazes me the most is the fact that so many people, from so many walks of life, from so many backgrounds and with so many different musical tastes can come together in one spot and get along so perfectly like they had been best friends for life. I have never, ever, experienced this before at any festival, or at any large gathering for that matter.

And for all us that camped together at “Camp InTentCity”… what can I say? Every single one of you is an amazing person, and I am truly blessed to have been able to have met and camped with you all. What a wonderful group of people that we had.

And last but not least, the festival itself. The DJ’s, bands and performers put on a spectacular show for us all. What amazed me the most is how many of the DJ’s/band members/artists interacted with the festival-goers, especially in the Sherwood Forest. It’s as if we were putting on a performance for them as well. Speaking of the Sherwood Forest… What a magical place it was. Lying in a hammock in the forest and being able to get lost in everything that was going on and escape reality was truly an amazing experience.

Thank you all that were a part of Electric Forest for making it such a life-changing and truly amazing experience.
